Mother's Day

Here it is the wee hours of Mother's Day. My family is dreaming in their beds as I decide what to do for the day. I will be rousing them in a couple of hours for a trek to the beach so that I can have breakfast with all the most important people in my life. The ones that make Mother's Day meaningful. Have I told you they are amazing people? Each is so different, yet completely my favorite. It seems contradictory to have more than one favorite. It just seems to fit how I feel about them. My beautiful children. Each with their own perfect heart and mind. Each with their own set of talents. They have such potential. I hope I get to see the astounding turns their lives will take. I am blessed to be their mother.

Easter Rocks!

Just had Easter dinner that I made. Ham with cherry pineapple apricot sauce, asparagus, au gratin potatoes, fresh berries with ladyfingers. Yum!!!! What do you call a mimosa with pina colada juice instead of orange? Or one with pomegranate blueberry juice? Because that is what I am enjoying now.
It's a beautiful spring day! The windows and doors are open. We rearranged the living room a bit. It feels like I could take control of my home again!
I get to spend the day with my family. My daughter is coming to stay over tonight. I'll make salmon for when she gets here. We played some of the player piano rolls. Hubby is out in the Carriage House playing his new amp and guitar. I wish I could always feel like this, happy and hopeful.
Have a wonderful Easter!

Happy Thanksgiving

Can you believe it's Thanksgiving already? It's been a whirlwind year. I imagine the rest of it will go as fast as well. What are you doing today? Us? We're having dinner here. This year I get to have all of my kids together again. That is really my greatest joy, so yes, I am extremely thankful. I hope they are happy being here as well. I've been pretty pissy lately, not at them, but other things. Life is up and down.
The holidays...I remember the wonderful gatherings my mother put together for the holidays. My parents went all out for us all the time. The delicious smells and tastes, the comfort, the laughter and tears. We had the full range of emotion on holidays. The love always won out. I miss her and my dad.
It never feels like I am able to provide the comfort and support I was given. I hope I am wrong. They are amazing people and I love them more than I ever thought possible.

Didn't take any pictures. I'll have to get some from my daughter and friend to post here. I was cooking. Had a great day! My whole immediate family and best friend were here for the day. We even celebrated Leigh Ann's birthday with her. Knitted a little too. We made birthday change purses. Still need to felt them and sew in zippers. They're pretty cool. Mine may be a little small when felted. We'll see. It was a beautiful Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have to share with all of you just how happy I am this Thanksgiving with all my children home and safe for the holiday. It's been a couple of years since we were all able to be together for Thanksgiving. I am so glad we could be together and everyone wanted to be. I love this marvelous group of people.
We had the traditional Turkey dinner with the trimmings. Yumm. I am stuffed...

Labor Day weekend over so soon

It was kind of nice not to do too much this weekend. We had our friend Robert come over for a couple of days. It's always nice to have him. He knows a lot of interesting facts about almost anything that anyone brings up. He has helped us with a lot of little projects around the house too. It's nice to have someone to have a glass of wine with. Or two...

Saw my cousin at a practice session for a benefit concert they'll be doing for Katrina victims. I went with my husband, son, and friend.

My friend Leigh Ann came over and wisked my daughter and me off to the San Gabriel Bead Company in Arcadia. It was a really cool place. Lots of different beads, materials, and findings.

Went to the bookstore and PetsMart. Gave Merlin a bath and brushed him a bit. I did a little knitting. Put some of my yarn away in the bookcases in my room. Sorted a box of books to give away. Added yarns to the stash section of my Ravelry notebook. And this blog. So really just a little of this and a little of that.

Happy Easter!

It was a very quiet Easter. Paul barbequed the ham and some beef ribs and I made the rest of the food inside. My youngest daughter made cookies and dyed eggs. (I'm saving the dye in case I can finish a pair of socks tonight to dye in it. I thought it would be fun to dip dye some springtime color socks.) My younger son helped our friends move. He got home about 5 minutes before the food was ready. Great timing. My older daughter and son celebrated elsewhere. My oldest son is in New York still. He's saving his leave to get out of the army early. My oldesr daughter had plans with her boyfriend's family. Hopefully next year we'll be spending our holidays together.

These are the washclothes I've been making my sister-in-law. I adapted the dragonfly pattern with each cloth. The pink one was the last and I am happiest with the shape of the head. The original one seemed to have antennae.
This is a wrap I've been working on. I have used more than half of one of the yarns and can't find any more of it so it will be slightly less than twice this length. I think it will be acceptable. I wish I'd cast it on a little narrower so it would be longer. The mohair is too clingy to consider frogging it to start again. Perhaps blocking it will help. I really love the stitch pattern and color though. I can't wait to wear it.
