Water Witching at Innifree

I finished the section of floor I have been scraping tiles off of. I am tired and my hands and back hurts. Just as I was sitting out at the picnic table saying I couldn't do all the steps I need to do to finish the floor, our well guy showed up. We located a couple of different places to put the well. He used the brass rods to locate the placement of the well. My son, husband and I all got to try it ourselves too. It works! Chuck says that it works with the electrical charge of your body.
So we have a place to dig and an appointment to drill in the next couple of weeks. We are waiting on the engineering of the leach field and septic system and a start date for excavation. I hope it's soon. I've got to start getting some money back for the Crow's Nest.
We took a drive down South Shore road and caught sight of a couple of deer across the pond near 4th Lake. I was just thinking we always see deer walking along the road or in town, but never drinking. Guess I was wrong.

Cabinets ordered

Here's for you Mark. Wish you were here!Today we made progress. I found some acceptable cabinets in stock in Rome, New York. They'll be here Monday. We also got concrete to make new footings under the supports holding up the garage and Crow's Nest. We received excellent advice when it came to what to do to get rid of the glue left after removing the linoleum tiles in Innisfree's kitchen. So we spent the whole day out of camp. We wanted to have all that out of the way for the possibility of family being here with us this weekend.
I did finish one knitting project finally. It's a long washcloth with handles for washing your back. I didn't block it...it's a washcloth. I like the pattern better on the backside. The bumps make it look like it will do a good job scrubbing your back. I adapted a pattern I found for a washcloth by addiing I-cord handles. It's a little bumpy where I connected the ends. Oh well, better next time...

Innisfree is not a town in New York

Innisfree is our camp on Seventh Lake in the Adirondacks. It has a main house and a garage with a one bedroom apartment over it. It is next door to Cool-Shag-Na, the camp my grandfather had rebuilt when it burned down the year after they bought it. We weren't clear when we told our friend Robert about it. He thought it was a town. The town does start with an "I", Inlet.
We have been very busy here. The bathroom in the Crow's Nest just needs to have the water and septic pipes attached, shower doors or curtains and the last couple of adjustments made to attach the toilet, sink and pipes to their final spots. The contractor has been here to go over the plan for a septic system and a well. We just have to wait through the 4th of July holiday for everyone to get back out here. That will be a major undertaking after which we should be ready to rent out the Crow's Nest. This is the path to the Crow's Nest


In Innisfree's kitchen, what was used as counters has been dismantled and we are ready to go find our counters. We have discovered a pretty cool wood floor under the linoleum in the kitchen and have started (more than half way done) taking the tiles off. It's got so much glue left on it you stick to the floor when you walk. Today one of my shoes came off as I was trying to take a step. That has necessitated using paint thinner to release the glue. The floors are definitely distressed, but it's still better than the broken linoleum tiles. We have a lot of steelwooling to do to get the marks left around the tiles off.




Last but not least, my husband has got his gas powered ice cream maker working.
We have a lot of thanks to send to Robert Dowling. He had to go home to deal with his own life today. Without him most of this would not have even been started. I hope he had a little fun while he was here.

Shopping in Utica

My daughter's birthday is tomorrow so we are going to Utica to do a little shopping. My son loves the Price Chopper pepperoni so we have to stop there too. Maybe a side trip to Lowville to Miller's the Mennonite meat market. They have the best meats and seasonings and all the old fashioned candies and cooking ingredients you could want.

Building materials

The Crow's Nest is a one bedroom little cottage in the woods. It is on top of a garage and has a screened in sleeping porch. We are trying to get it habitable as something more than just an extra bedroom with no facilities.
Today and Robert headed to Utica for materials for the bathroom. The kids worked on emptying the garage while they were gone. They are now digging and jacking the building up to get a support moved into the right place to hold up the middle of the building. They have the materials for a sink, shower and toilet to be put in, along with some flooring and something to cover the walls. I forgot we probably need a light, but that is the least of our worries right now. I am waiting to hear from the excavator to get the engineering done for a well and septic system.
